A short breakdown:
A single momma in my 30’s with a 10 year old. An old career of dance/hip hop behind me that still, to this day, leaves a fire burning within me to want to return to the stage. My body constantly changing to my environment with an office job and a “standing only” job. You can say I have about 4 jobs total; 3 of which I get paid for. The fourth job I do because it is observably a passion; hopefully you can tell by my content. I’m a true ambivert. I only moderately watch what I eat, most of my life my motto has been “everything in moderation.” Yet, there are definitely things I absolutely DO NOT put in my body.
You would think at this point in my life and in my schedule, I don’t have a lot of time for hobbies.
Alongside my dance life, yoga was always part of my journey. Something to stimulate my muscles on my off-dance days, and something to increase my flexibility for the purposes of dance. After so many injuries I’ve suffered in this industry, and after giving birth, and the usual changes that come with age…you can imagine the difficulty I had in finding a decent fitness regimen. I had even consulted with a dietician/nutritionist on the needs of my body. A lot of the guess work was taken out, but it would still take me another year until I found my literal tribe.
Enter Buti Yoga….
Since February, I found something amazing in a free trial I took for 7 days and immediately became obsessed. A community of women that are doing life together through a unique yoga practice that is inclusive to body positivity and positive changes to a healthy lifestyle. Buti is a blend of plyometrics, TRIBAL DANCE, primal movements, and vinyasa-style yoga.“Buti” is a Marathi Indian term for “the cure to something that’s been hidden away or kept secret.” Buti is a practice of going within to discover your true power and full potential. It becomes the cure to any previous disillusionments of fear, lack, or weakness.
With all the blends of my old life, this has made the transition into this practice almost seamless. My life is certainly about transitions and this practice has indeed allowed me to feel my sexiest self and a new appreciation for the skin that I’m in. A true blend of things I loved already with challenging (but necessary) movement to increase my stamina. My weight didn’t change, but I lost a significant amount of body fat and I found myself at my happiest regardless at the weird looks I get when I tell people about it. What I also found was the increased flexibility I achieved in a short amount of time, and honestly if Buti’s founder Bizzie Gold didn’t frequently tell me to take a rest day after 3 days, I certainly would have happily run myself ragged for weeks on end. Yes, I love it THAT much.
There is a journey that will be incorporated with this as I continue to experiment with some necessary changes. One of which coincides with a different approach to my body’s need for protein before or after a workout…
Enter Golden Ratio….
A grain-free and dairy-free protein powder to support this modern and active lifestyle that I have adopted. This was also, not ironically approved by my nutritionist that recommended (after reviewing blood work) my need to remove grain and dairy and go full paleo.
I wish you knew how this terrifies me.
I friggin love cheese so much as well as pasta, but with the amount of activity I do as a working mom; the boost is exactly what I need.
If you want to know more about Golden Ratio, follow the link above to learn more about the collagen and pea protein supplement. I’ll also be posting my progress through my Art and Sol IG, so I hope you’ll join me on the transition and crazy sacrifice I’m about to undertake! Another thing I’ll be providing is some of my favorite tone workouts from Buti and hope you’ll also join me in some intentional sweat!
Tonight I’m providing a little gem so I’ll see you on the mat!
